Peter J. Callahan, LICSW, ADC-S, MAC, CCFC, ICADC,  is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, Licensed in West Virginia and Virginia. Peter is an Alcohol and Drug Counselor and is an active member of the WV Certification Board of Addiction and Prevention Professionals (WVCBAPP). Peter is also a Clinically Certified Forensics Counselor through the American College of Forensic Counselors.  He has been appointed to the West Virginia School of Medicine as a Clinical Instructor.
Peter has developed numerous community-based programs and continues to work with local and state agencies.  He sits on several state and national committees to improve the quality of care for those in need. Peter has worked with many schools in the area and with various authors in the mental health and addictions field.
Peter has served on the West Virginia Certification Board of Addiction and Prevention Professionals (WVCBAPP) in many capacities, including President, Treasurer, and Certification Chair.  Peter has also served proudly on the International Certification & Reciprocity Committee (IC&RC) Board. The IC&RC is the oversight body of the WVCBAPP.  Peter served on the Executive Committee of the IC&RC Board as the Finance Chair member.  Peter was also on the Berkeley County Adult Drug Court Advisory Committee.  Peter serves on the West Virginia Chapter of the Social Work Board as Vice President of Finances.  He is also Chair of the National Committee on Nominations & Leadership Identification.

Susan Callahan, MSW, LICSW Susan is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker. She provides skillful and caring psychotherapy for adults and adolescents. Susan's areas of interest include grief and loss, depression and anxiety disorders, and relationship and parent guidance.

Trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques, Susan creates a respectful and supportive environment in which clients of any age feel listened to and supported as they navigate their challenges.

Susan's approach is primarily client-centered and strength-based. She incorporates various modalities, such as Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or Solution-Focused Therapy, depending on the client's needs. She assists clients in alleviating troubling symptoms and understanding the underlying causes of these symptoms, developing a more empowered sense of themselves.

Susan is the mother of three boys. She is an active member of the community where she holds seats on boards of the Shenandoah Women’s Center and the charitable organization, Saint Vincent DePaul Society.  Susan also volunteers at Antietam National Battlefield in Sharpsburg, MD.

Laurel

Laurel Harding, MSW, LGSW, AADC  Laurel is a Jefferson County native. Laurel came to Callahan Counseling Services in April 2021. She is currently the DUI Coordinator. 

Laurel graduated from Shepherd University with a B.S. in Sociology in 2006 and an M.S. in Psychology from the University of Phoenix in 2021. Laurel graduated from Concord University in 2024 with a Master's in Social Work. 

Laurel is a mother of five children, two boys, and three girls. She enjoys exploring the outdoors and relaxing on the river.

Eric Vandell

Eric Vandell, MA:  Eric is a career educator who works part-time at Callahan Counseling as an addictions counselor and DUI instructor. 

Eric graduated from West Virginia University with a degree in Secondary Education and later earned a Master’s Degree in Special Education.  Eric has served 33 years as a substitute teacher, teacher, assistant principal, and currently as a principal for Jefferson County Schools.  Eric came to Callahan Counseling with a passion for helping others recover from addiction.

Eric has two awesome kids and resides in Berkeley County with his wife of 22 years.  Eric enjoys music, sports, and the outdoors in his spare time.
