Peter J. Callahan, LICSW, ADC-S, MAC, CCFC, ICADC is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, Licensed in West Virginia and Virginia. Peter is an Alcohol and Drug Counselor and is an active member of the WV Certification Board of Addiction and Prevention Professionals (WVCBAPP). Peter is also a Clinically Certified Forensics Counselor through the American College of Forensic Counselors.  He has been appointed to the West Virginia School of Medicine as a Clinical Instructor.
Peter has developed numerous community-based programs and continues to work with local and state agencies.  He sits on several state committees to improve the quality of care for those in need. Peter has worked with many schools in the area as well as with a variety of authors in the mental health and addictions field.
Peter has served on the West Virginia Certification Board of Addiction and Prevention Professionals (WVCBAPP) in many capacities, including, President, Treasurer, and Certification Chair.  Peter has also served proudly on the International Certification & Reciprocity Committee (IC&RC) Board. The IC&RC is the over sighting body of the WVCBAPP.  Peter served on the Executive Committee of the IC&RC Board as the Finance Chair member.  Peter was also on the Berkeley County Adult Drug Court Advisory Committee.  Peter currently serves as Secretary on the Board of the West Virginia Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors and the West Virginia Chapter of the Social Work Board.

L. Douglas Houck, LPC, NCC, AADC
Doug is a National Board Certified Counselor and he is a Licensed Professional Counselor an Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor in the state of West Virg inia.  He obtained his undergraduate RBA degree, with a concentration in Psychology, from Shepherd College and his Masters degree in Counseling from West Virginia University.  During his twenty-five years of clinical experience, he has worked in the community, hospital and private sectors providing mental health and addiction services.  His past experiences include working as the clinical director of a 24-bed adult addictions rehabilitation facility, serving as the administrator of a county-wide mental health clinic, coordinating a hospital-based intensive outpatient program, and practicing as a private practice clinician in Martinsburg, WV for six years.  Prior to entering the mental health and addictions field in 1989, Doug worked for Mack Trucks for seventeen years as a Materials Test Engineer.  Doug is a native of Martinsburg and he and his wife live locally.

Susan Callahan, MSW, LICSW Susan is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker.  She provides skillful and caring psychotherapy for adults and adolescents.  Susan's area of interest include grief and loss, depression and anxiety disorders, as well as, relationship and parent guidance.

Trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques, Susan works to create a respectful and supportive environment in which clients of any age feel listened to and supported as they navigate whatever challenges they are facing.

Susan's approach is primarily client centered and strength based, incorporating various modalities such as, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or Solution Focused Therapy, depending on the needs of the client.  She assists clients in alleviating troubling symptoms and understanding the underlying causes of these symptoms, developing a more empowered sense of themselves.

Susan is the mother of three boys. She is an active member of the community where she holds seats on boards of the Shenandoah Women’s Center and the charitable organization, Saint Vincent DePaul Society.  Susan also volunteers at Antietam National Battlefield in Sharpsburg, MD.

Anna Whittington, MS Anna is a recent graduate of Marshall University. 

Anna had interned with us at Callahan Counseling Services and has proven to be an outstanding addition to our staff.  We are excited to be part of her journey into the helping field.

Laurel

Laurel Harding, MS, PSW  Laurel is a Jefferson County native. Laurel came to Callahan Counseling Services in April 2021. She is currently the DUI Coordinator. 

Laurel graduated from Shepherd University with a B.S. in Sociology in 2006 and an M.S. in Psychology in 2021 from the University of Phoenix. Laurel is a mother of five children, two boys and three girls. She enjoys spending time exploring the outdoors and relaxing on the river.

Shawn

Shawn Sandlin, CBCS - Billing Specialist Shawn was born and raised in Martinsburg West Virginia and graduated from Martinsburg High School. Most recently she attended Valley College and graduated with highest honors from their Front Office Medical Billing and Coding program in 2019. She is a Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS). She joined the team at Callahan Counseling in May of 2020. She loves the challenges the job brings and the opportunities to learn new things. Shawn is the mother of two children who are twenty years apart.  She is also a "Mimi" to two beautiful grandchildren. In her spare time she enjoys taking the kids on adventures and living life to the fullest!
